PATHS FRAMEWORK
Practical principles for playing music in church contexts

PATHS Framework
The PATHS framework provides a practical tool for developing both technical skills and heart posture as music teams prepare, serve and reflect.

Posture
The framework needs to start with God - or rather our POSTURE towards Him. Are we reflecting on the scriptures the lyrics come from? Are we relying on Him during the service? Are we giving Him the glory afterwards? THIS is the foundation not just of PATHS but of all worship that seeks to glorify God.

Arrangement
How we posture ourselves will inform how we are arranging the songs and the service. Does a reflective song edify the church better before the sermon? Is this key too high for the singers? Are we giving enough time between verses to breathe?

Timing
The feel and pace of the song can completely make or break how your church responds to the lyrics. Is everyone coming in together at the same time? Are we speeding up in the chorus? Is that annoying, repetitive beep sound really important for me to follow?

Harmony and Melody
Like Timing, the tonal nature of music needs to be one that everyone sings together. Are we nailing that high 'E' in the verse? Are they playing the same chords as me? Does the song require a 4 part harmony or a single voice?

Stage Presence
Not that church is a time to perform, but making sure that we look comfortable and confident on stage helps us lead the congregation well. How does my stance impact on my stage presence? How does my movement or stillness impact the congregations focus? How does my outfit support or detract from worship?
